Brahmi Leaf

Brahmi Leaf Bacopa monnieri

Brahmi Leaf isn’t an ingredient I see used often but it s a staple in Ayurvedic Medicine. It has a bitter sweet taste and imparts a cool energy. Brahmi Leaf traditionally has a been use to improve brain function and strengthen memory. It contains powerful antioxidants, reduces inflammation and prevents anxiety and stress with daily consumption per early studies. Brahmi Leaf is in Go Go Ginger Root Nutritive Tea, a tea I developed for my son to increase his access to micro and macro nutrients, calm mood and boost his learning abilities.

Eons

Trees sway, sky blue peeks through the leaves

Sun shines gently

There’s a bit of a chill in the air

And blooming flowers tuck their heads

The stream lazes by, no longer in a hurry

The land is breathing easily again for the first time in eons.

Chamomile Flower Matricaria recutita

When you think of a soothing, calming tea Chamomile has to be top of mind. The Chamomile Flower tastes grounded and earthy with hints of apple and floral sweetness. It is most well known use is a a natural sedative, a gentle relaxant. It helps with sleep, relaxation, and stress. Other less known benefits of Chamomile Flowers are its ability to boost the immune system, reduce inflammation, as a digestive relaxant and that it contains flavonoids, which is a nutrient. I use Chamomile Flowers to bring calm, relaxation, uplift and lightness to blends centered on mood improvement or enhancement. This ingredient also can play a role in blends that target the digestive tract/gastrointestinal tract or nutritive blends.

Teascape: Whispers

The wind whispers’ to the leaves and the leaves whisper to me. The dreams and the dreamers carried on the wind. Dreams looking for dreamers, dreamers looking for dreams. Energy exchanged in the breath of the wind.

Oat Straw

Oat Straw Avena sativa

This is slowly becoming one of my go to ingredients. It’s flavor is soft, a little sweet and mellow making it a good flavor pair for many ingredients. Oat Straw also imparts to me a cozy, warm, feeling. It’s a great source of calcium and antioxidants. There are some studies that suggest it may improve mood by inhibiting the enzyme PDE4 (phosphodiesterase type 4) which is found in immune cells. Oat Straw is also believe to relieve stress, anxiety and depression, improve blood flow, reduce inflammation and boost brain function. We use Oat Straw in blends that focus on improving or enhancing your mood.

Intermittent Peace

The light comes fast, haphazard, chaotic

Blinding seconds here and there

The sound booms, roars, and shakes

Doom promised in its voice

The intermittent peace is welcomed

But short lived and just as exhausting

The drama of the to and fro

Finally induces fitful, dreamless sleep

Chicory Root

Chicory Root Cichorium intybus

If you are looking for a coffee substitute-there’s much I could say but I’ll simply advise roasted Chicory Root might be for you. It is often added to coffee and imparts a woody, nutty flavor. Chicory Root is a good source of inulin, a type of prebiotic fiber. It also contains manganese and vitamin B, two nutrients tied to brain health. Chicory Root has been traditionally used to stimulate appetite, soothe upset stomachs and constipation. It is considered a mild laxative that increases bile from the gallbladder and decreases swelling in the gastrointestinal tract. I like to use Chicory Root in both out nutritive blends, blends with a nutritional component, and blends that focus on the digestive tract. It is also a good add in when you want to increase the body and weight of a blend.

Leaves

Have you ever examined a leaf, truly examined it. It’s may tributaries and pathways, pulsing with life and opportunity. A part yet some how separate and vital. Life is like that we have many opportunities and pathways. Many ways we can contribute meaningfully to our society while still being who we believe we are. But if you cut a leaf off from the whole opportunities and growth become stagnant. Can even die if a compatible secondary environment isn’t found. Sometimes we are cut from the whole and the risk of dying, of perishing to drift in the wind. It is then we must look within to figure out who we are and what our secondary environment is as we start to thrive again.

Leaves: veins of life + pathways (taken/not taken) = a life lived (richly/constricted)
