Chicory Root

Chicory Root Cichorium intybus

If you are looking for a coffee substitute-there’s much I could say but I’ll simply advise roasted Chicory Root might be for you. It is often added to coffee and imparts a woody, nutty flavor. Chicory Root is a good source of inulin, a type of prebiotic fiber. It also contains manganese and vitamin B, two nutrients tied to brain health. Chicory Root has been traditionally used to stimulate appetite, soothe upset stomachs and constipation. It is considered a mild laxative that increases bile from the gallbladder and decreases swelling in the gastrointestinal tract. I like to use Chicory Root in both out nutritive blends, blends with a nutritional component, and blends that focus on the digestive tract. It is also a good add in when you want to increase the body and weight of a blend.
